Geoffrey Bolton
Western Australian Geoffrey Bolton (G. C. Bolton in the bibliographies) began with a biography of Alexander Forrest, moved to the Australian National University as a research fellow in 1957, and produced A Thousand Miles Away: A History of North Queensland to 1920 in 1963. Although it is now well over sixty years old, it remains an obvious starting point for anyone interested in North Queensland history.
