Cairns/ Gimuy

Queensland's fifth-largest city by population, Cairns sits on the state's northeastern coast, 1390 kilometres north-northwest of Brisbane, on territory formerly occupied by the Gimuy Walubara clan of the Yidinji people.

Although it developed as a port for hinterland mines and a centre for tropical agriculture, the city's location on the shores of Trinity Bay and its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforests have transformed it into a major international tourist hub.
