Talbot Islands

Situated between the Australian mainland and New Guinea a few kilometres west of Saibai at the mouth of the Mai Kussa River in the Torres Strait Islands Region's Top Western Islands, the Talbot Islands contain around a dozen islands. Five are named:
  • Boigu, the only inhabited island
  • Moimi Island
  • Aubussi Island
  • Moegina Kawa
  • Aymermud

Moimi Island, the northernmost island, is four kilometres away from Kussa Island, Athian Maza and Yaperi (Vapere), which are geographically part of the island group but have been recognised as part of Papua New Guinea since 1978. So are the Kawai Islands (Kawa Island, Karobailo Kawa Island, Adabadana Kawa Island and Mata Kawa), nine kilometres further west.
