Top Western Islands
(Gudaw Maluligal Nation)Torres Strait's Top Western Islands lie very close to New Guinea's southwestern coastline:
- Boigu (Talbot Island): low-lying, formed by deposition of sediments and mud from New Guinean rivers accumulating on decayed coral.
- Dauan (Mt Cornwallis Island): the northernmost extent of the Great Dividing Range.
- Saibai: low-lying, formed by deposition of sediments and mud from New Guinean rivers accumulating on decayed coral.
