Poruma (Coconut Island)

Situated just under 110 kilometres northeast of Thursday Island and just under 820 kilometres north-northwest of Cairns, Poruma (Coconut Island; Kulkalgau Ya: Puruma) is a coral cay in the Torres Strait Islands' Central Island Cluster near the Cumberland Passage within the Shire of Torres.

Poruma is approximately 1.4 kilometres long and around 400 metres wide. Shallow, fringing coral reefs with sea turtle hatcheries, abundant bird life, giant clams, World War II relics, and massive sand flats bound it.

The traditional owners are the Billy and Fauid (Fy-Hood) families. The local language is the Kulkalgau Ya dialect of Kalaw Lagaw Ya.
