Gureng Gureng

The AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia places the Gureng Gureng (alternatively Goreng Goreng, Koreng-koreng, with several close variations) on the central Queensland coast between Gladstone and Bundaberg with the Bayali to their north, the Gangulu and Wulli Wulli to their west, and the Waka Waka and Gubbi Gubbi to their south.

Norman Tindale's Aboriginal Tribes of Australia lists them as two separate groups — the Korenggoreng on the Upper Burnett River's east bank from Mundubbera north to Monto and Many Peaks, and the Goeng, who he places between the south end of Port Curtis and the mouth of Baffle Creek, extending inland to the Kolan River's headwaters. The two groups may have represented separate dialects within a Waka-Kabic regional language group spoken south of Gladstone, including Bundaberg, Gin Gin and Miriam Vale, extending south towards Childers and inland to Monto and Mt Perry.
