• Rising in the Bellenden Ker Range, below Mount Bartle Frere and Mount Bellenden Ker in Country, the 59-kilometre-long Russell River drains a 669 square kilometre catchment before discharging into the Coral Sea approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Cairns in an estuary it shares with the Mulgrave.
