Located in Gadigal and Eora Country on the shores of Sydney Harbour/Port Jackson, Sydney is Australia's oldest European settlement and, with a population of more than five and a half million, its most populous city.
The metropolis extends about 80 kilometres east-west from the Pacific Ocean to the Blue Mountains and about 80 kilometres along the coast from the Hawkesbury River to the Royal National Park.
