Bounded on the north by the Lachlan River, the Riverina's northwestern and southern boundaries — the Murrumbidgee and Murray, respectively— are clear-cut. The eastern boundary — somewhere towards the Great Dividing Range east of Albury and Wagga Wagga — is less easily defined.
The Riverina's combination of flat plains, a climate with significant seasonal variation, and an ample supply of water for irrigation from the snow-fed Murray and Murrumbidgeehas enabled it to develop into one of Australia's most productive and agriculturally diverse regions.
