East Nusa Tenggara Province

Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara (literally, the  'East Southeast Islands') is the country's southernmost province, comprising the eastern part of the Lesser Sunda Islands with the Indian Ocean to the south and the Flores Sea to the north. Sumba, Flores, and the western part of Timor, which shares a land border with East Timor, are the largest of the province's 566 islands. The provincial capital and largest city is Kupang in West Timor.

Proximity to the former Portuguese colony of East Timor and missionary activity in the neighbouring islands have made East Nusa Tenggara one of two Indonesian provinces where Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion. The other is South Papua.

Archaeological evidence suggests that early humans, including Homo floresiensis, have inhabited Liang Bua cave in East Nusa Tenggara since about 190,000 years ago.
