Woorabinda
Woorabinda
Located nearly 50 kilometres south-southwest of Duaringa and 135 kilometres southwest of Rockhampton, Woorabinda, developed in the 1920s as a collection point for remnants of Central Queensland's Aboriginal populations, is the region's only Deed of Grant in Trust community. Many of the people arrived on foot from Taroom — more than 200 kilometres away — where remnants from all over the state had previously been gathered. Their forced relocation was commemorated with a re-enactment in 2014.
The new settlement's superintendent, Herbert Cecil Colledge, used Aboriginal words, woora (kangaroo) and binda (camp) to name the new reserve.
