Mission River
Formed by the confluence of Myall Creek and Pappan Creek, the 37-kilometre Mission River discharges into Albatross Bay near Weipa, draining a 2,697 square kilometre catchment that includes 247 square kilometres of estuarine wetlands.
Mission River takes its name from the Aboriginal mission established near the present town of Weipa by the Presbyterian Church. It was probably given in 1895 by missionary J. Nicholas Hey or the Government Resident of Thursday Island John Douglas.
