Black River
From a source west of Mount Cataract in the Great Dividing Range near Ben Lomond East, the Black River flows northeasterly across the coastal plain, draining a 1,060 square kilometre catchment before discharging into Halifax Bay between Yabulu and Beach Holm, approximately ten kilometres northwest of Townsville. The outer suburb of Black River lies on the north side of the river, which is named after the city's first mayor, the pastoralist and entrepreneur John Melton Black.
