Vincent

Located in Wulgurukaba country, six kilometres southwest of central Townsville, Nathan Street bounds Vincent to the west, Dalrymple Road to the north, Cambridge and Anne Streets to the east, and Charles Street to the south.

The residential suburb, named after Major William Slade Vincent, the first commanding officer of the Townsville-based 3rd Queensland Regiment (Kennedy Regiment), was developed on three hundred acres of Commonwealth government land as housing for troops based in the newly-constructed Lavarack Barracks after 1967. The area previously held various derelict structures erected in World War II, when Dalrymple Road and Nathan Street were landing strips for Allied aircraft.

Vincent State School opened at the start of the 1968 school year 1968.
