Mount Molloy
The mining and timber town of Mount Molloy, named after Patrick Molloy, who discovered copper beside Rifle Creek in 1885, and the surrounding locality, lie within Djabugay country, 53 kilometres northwest of Cairns and 25 kilometres southwest of Port Douglas.
Copper was mined intermittently until John Moffat incorporated Mount Molloy into his mining and metals empire in the early 1900s. Today, the town consists of a few shops and a hotel.
