Clump Point
Separating Bingil Bay from Mission Beach in Djiru country 38 kilometres south of Innisfail and 47 kilometres north-northeast of Cardwell in the Cassowary Coast Region, Clump Point is a low, 1.5 -kilometre long finger of rock, reef and mangroves with a boat ramp and jetty that allows access to the area's offshore islands, including the former resorts on Dunk Island and Bedarra.
Reputedly named by HMS Rattlesnake's Captain Owen Stanley after the vessel landed the ill-fated Kennedy expedition in Rockingham Bay, Clump Point descends from the rainforest-covered coastal hills to a rocky bluff to seaward in a long open grassy ridge, dotted with clumps of trees, which gave it a park-like appearance.
