Eastern islands

The Eastern Islands are the peaks of volcanoes active in Pleistocene times. Consequently, their thickly vegetated hillsides have rich and fertile red volcanic soils. The easternmost islands are less than twenty kilometres from the Great Barrier Reef's.northern extension
