Murray Islands
Just over 210 kilometres east-northeast of Thursday Island within the Torres Strait Island Region local government area on the northeasterly fringe of Torres Strait and the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef, the Murray Islands group consists of Mer (Murray Island), Daua Island and Waua Islet. Captain Edward Edwards, commander of the frigate HMS Pandora, named the group in August 1791, just before the Pandora was wrecked.
