Cape Bowling Green
Cape Bowling Green, a lengthy headland that ends with a long low sandspit, lies about thirty kilometres north of Ayr, forming the eastern edge of Bowling Green Bay.
The loss of several ships prompted the Queensland Government to build the first lighthouse near the base of the sandspit in 1874; after several relocations, the prefabricated structure is now part of the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
