Kawadji (collective term)

Norman Tindale's work has the Kawadji as a separate entity, centred on Night Island and the coast opposite, labelling them Night Island Kawadji and acknowledging Kawadji as a collective term used by inland people for their coastal neighbours.
Elsewhere, the term appears as a collective label for Tindale's Kawadji and the other sandbeach peoples on Cape York Peninsula's east coast north of Princess Charlotte Bay, who appear in these pages as (northward from Princess Charlotte Bay on the AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia:
  • Umbindhamu (Umpithamu/Koko Ompindamo)
  • Kuuku-yani
  • Umpila
  • Uutaalnganu (Tindale's Kawadji)
  • Pontunj (Yankonyu or Jangkonju)
  • Kuuku-ya'u (Pakadji/Koko Yao)
  • Wuthathi (Otati/Wuta(h)i)
  • Yadhaighana
  • Yintyingka
