Murray Prior Range

Located around 10 kilometres east of Cairns and 20 kilometres northeast of Gordonvale, to the west of Cape Grafton, the Murray Prior Range lies immediately south of Yarrabah and forms the boundary between Idinji/Yidinji/Yidiny Country and Gunggandji/Kongkandji Country. Until the establishment of the mission at Yarrabah, the range served as a protective barrier for the Gunggandji people, who remained relatively isolated from the effects of frontier violence.

George Elphinstone Dalrymple named the Murray Prior Peaks, which he considered part of the Malbon Thompson Range, after Queensland Postmaster-General Thomas Lodge Murray-Prior in 1873.
