Mayi-Kulan

According to Norman Tindale, the Mayi-Kulan, who he labelled Maikulan (a.k.a. Maikulung, Maikolon, Makulu, Mygoolan, Mykoolan, Mycoolon, Micoolan, Miccoolin, Mikkoolan, Mikoolun) occupied around 19,800 square kilometres in the Gulf Country on the Middle Norman, Yappar, and Clara rivers. Their territory extended north to Milgarra, east to Gregory Range and west to Iffley and Canobie Stations. They may have spoken an extinct/dormant Pama-Nyungan Mayabic dialect of Ngawun/Wunumara

After the first contact with European pastoralists, some Mayi-Kulan seem to have moved down the Norman River towards Normanton, where they have been thought to be indigenous. Edward Palmer's Notes on Some Australian Tribes has an early record of their original territorial limits.
