Suburban Auchenflower
An 1859 surveyor's map gives a handful of names for the owners of a dozen blocks on the river side of Milton Road between Sylvan Road and the old Milton Tennis courts. John Markwell and Ambrose Eldridge accounted for half of them, including the block that became the Auchenflower Estate.
With three premiers of Queensland living in Auchenflower House and various other significant figures living in the neighbourhood, investigating the area's back story reveals some fascinating detail, including what amounted to Sir Thomas McIlwraith's personal railway station.
McIlwraith's Estate deals with the suburb's earliest migaloo incarnation.
