Sometimes a hint is all you need to start digging. In this case, there were two.

The first was a passing reference.

A camping ground on the hill between Auchenflower and Toowong had been used at least into the 1860s.

The second came with the identification of Gregory Park, next to Milton State School, as the former Red Jacket Swamp — a significant resource for the area's pre-settlement indigenous population.

From that start, recent flood events and Thomas Pamphlett's Narrative got things rolling.

My hypothetical interpretation of the area's indigenous background remains a work in progress.
