Floodproofing The North
Dorothea Mackellar wrote of a sunburnt country ... of droughts and flooding rains. That's as true of The North as it is of the rest of Australia. However, the cries go up regularly when the rains tumble down each wet season. Floodproof the North!
While it could be done, making The North floodproof would require massive expenditure and significant relocation of vulnerable communities. In the meantime, extreme weather events will continue to take their financial toll.
