John Campbell
Scots-born Vice-Admiral John Campbell (1720–1790) joined the Royal Navy as a youth and participated in George Anson's Centurion circumnavigation (1740-44).
He became a navigational expert and served as Governor and Commander-in-Chief in Newfoundland from 1782 until his death.
